About these milestones
These milestones are based on the CDC's "Learn the Signs. Act Early." checklists, which list what most children (75% or more) can do by each age. Every child grows at their own pace. A missed milestone is a reason to talk with the family, not a diagnosis.
How teachers can use this checklist
- Observe the child during normal play and routines over a few days.
- Mark Yes, Not yet or Not sure for each milestone.
- Share what the child can do first, then any questions.
- If you have concerns, encourage the family to talk with their child's doctor. Families can also contact their state's early intervention program (for children under 3) or local school district (3 and older) for a free evaluation.
- Never tell a family their child has a delay. Share what you saw.
