See digital check-in →What is a daycare sign-in and sign-out sheet?
A daycare sign-in and sign-out sheet records when each child arrives and leaves, and which adult dropped them off and picked them up. It is your attendance record, your safety record in an emergency, and often the record a licensing inspector or subsidy agency asks to see.
What to include
- Child's name and the date
- Time in and time out
- Signature or initials of the adult at drop-off and pick-up
- Picked up by: useful when someone other than a parent collects the child
- Health check: a quick note at arrival, if your program does one
- Notes for staff, like “late pick-up today”
How to use it well
- Keep the sheet at the door with a pen on a string, and print a fresh one every day.
- Ask families to write the full time (8:05, not “morning”).
- Check the sheet at closing: every child signed in must be signed out.
- Store sheets for as long as your state's licensing rules require.
Paper sheet or digital check-in?
Paper works, but it gets lost, signatures are hard to read, and adding up hours for billing or subsidy takes time. A digital check-in saves every time automatically and gives you an attendance report in one tap.

Sign-in sheet questions
What should a daycare sign-in and sign-out sheet include?
The child's name, the date, the time in and time out, and the signature or initials of the adult who dropped off and picked up. Many programs also add who picked up the child, a quick health check at arrival, and a notes column for messages to staff.
How long should I keep daycare sign-in sheets?
Keep them for as long as your state's child care licensing rules require. Attendance records are often checked during inspections and used for subsidy billing, so many programs keep them for several years. Check your state's rules for the exact period.
Is this sign-in sheet free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in your browser. Add your center name and children, then print or save it as a PDF.
Can I add my children's names to the sheet?
Yes. Paste your class list, one name per line, and each name gets its own row. Leave it empty for a blank sheet parents fill in.
Is there a digital version of a daycare sign-in sheet?
Yes. With MyKidReports, parents check their child in and out on their phone or a kiosk, times are saved automatically, and you get attendance reports without paper. It is free for up to 5 children.
